Oh, woe.
Sad news, fantasy fans. James Oliver Rigley, also known as Robert Jordan, is dead now just before his 59th birthday from complications with amyloidosis. Whether you love his ingenuity or hate his rampant borrowing from other literature, myth, and culture, enjoy all of the books or just up until "Fires of Heaven, when they started to suck", you have to admit that his death just before he was due to finish the last book in the goddamn series is a great big burn on us all.

Godspeed, RJ, and thanks. I hope the army of writers clamboring to finish up the last one don't fuck it up too badly.

I've sadly never read any of his books, but from what I understand, he already wrote the last scene of the last book, and since his wife was his editor, there are evidently rumors that SHE'S going to finish the series.

yeah, a good chunk of the last book is already done, plus he's outlined and plot pointed the rest of it, and told his wife and brother a few days before kicking it (i wonder why), and there's tons of notes and tons of guys who wanna finish it. it'll come out, but it won't be the same, y'know?

See I told you, I feel reall rotten for telling you about it. But I guess you would have been even more pissed off if you started asking about when the last book is coming out, only to have people say "Oh, he died years ago, where were you?"
